Chapter 6 - The Brother's Betrayal

Lorenzo Vitelli stepped out of the shadows, looking like a younger, more cruel version of Antonio.

He was impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, holding a silver revolver casually at his side.

Evelyn's co-worker, Sarah, stood right behind him, avoiding Evelyn's horrified gaze.

"You poisoned a man at 37,000 feet, Sarah?" Evelyn asked, disgust dripping from her voice.

Sarah flinched but remained silent, clinging nervously to Lorenzo's arm.

"Do not blame her, Miss Foster. She simply followed my precise instructions," Lorenzo said with a terrifying smile.

He explained that Antonio was too soft, too traditional, and unfit to lead the new era of their syndicate.

"Where is Antonio?" Marco demanded, ignoring the gun pointed in his direction.

Lorenzo laughed, a dry and hollow sound that echoed off the sterile hospital tiles.

"My dear brother is currently being relocated to a permanent, underground residence," Lorenzo mocked.

He raised the silver revolver and pointed it squarely at Marco's chest.

"You were always too loyal to the wrong brother, Marco."

Before Lorenzo could pull the trigger, Evelyn grabbed a heavy oxygen tank from the corner of the room.

She rolled it forcefully across the slick linoleum floor like a bowling ball.

The heavy metal cylinder smashed into Lorenzo's shins, knocking him violently to the ground.

His gun fired wildly into the ceiling, showering the room in acoustic dust.

Marco lunged forward, using his one good arm to punch Lorenzo across the jaw, knocking him out cold.

Sarah screamed and ran out the hospital door, disappearing down the sterile white hallway.

Marco picked up the silver revolver and handed it to Evelyn.

"We have to find the transport ambulance before they execute Antonio," Marco said urgently.

They sprinted down the corridor and burst through the hospital's loading dock doors.

An ambulance was speeding away into the dark, rainy night, its sirens completely silent.

Evelyn saw the Boston pediatrician sitting in the driver's seat, smiling at her through the rearview mirror.
