Chapter 10 - The False Victory

Evelyn took a sip of the champagne, the cold liquid soothing her dry, raspy throat.
She looked out the small oval window, watching the green coast of Ireland disappear beneath the clouds.
The terrifying ordeal was finally over, and she was walking away a millionaire.
She had survived assassins, corrupt family members, and the deadliest mafia boss on the continent.
"Thank you, Mr. Vitelli," Evelyn said, feeling a genuine sense of relief wash over her exhausted body.
Antonio nodded respectfully, opened his laptop, and immediately went back to managing his empire.
Evelyn set her glass down and pulled the sleek leather briefcase onto her lap.
She clicked the golden latches open, eager to see her new passport and the money that would change her life.
The case was not filled with stacks of cash.
There was only a single, heavily encrypted tablet resting on a bed of black velvet.
The screen suddenly lit up, displaying a live video feed of a dark, windowless room.
Evelyn's mother and father were tied to wooden chairs, blindfolded and gagged, with armed men standing right behind them.
The man sitting in the seat next to Evelyn slowly lowered his newspaper.
