Chapter 7 - The Ambulance Chase

Evelyn and Marco sprinted back to the battered Land Rover waiting in the alley.
Marco tossed her the keys, realizing he was too injured to handle a high-speed pursuit.
Evelyn slammed the door, started the engine, and tore out of the industrial park onto the wet highway.
The taillights of the stolen ambulance glowed faintly in the distance, cutting through the dense Irish fog.
"Push it to the floor!" Marco yelled, clutching his bleeding arm as the vehicle violently shook.
Evelyn pressed the accelerator completely down, feeling the heavy SUV hydroplane slightly on the slick asphalt.
She had never driven above eighty miles per hour in her life, let alone in a high-stakes chase.
They slowly gained on the ambulance as it swerved recklessly through the sparse late-night traffic.
The back doors of the ambulance suddenly swung open, revealing a heavily armed mercenary standing inside.
He raised an assault rifle and began firing blindly at their windshield.
Bullets spider-webbed the glass, forcing Evelyn to duck as she fought to keep the steering wheel straight.
"Ram them!" Marco commanded, pointing toward the right rear tire of the ambulance.
Evelyn braced herself, downshifted, and slammed the heavy grill of the Land Rover into the corner of the ambulance.
The impact sent a brutal shockwave through her arms, but the physics worked perfectly.
The ambulance fishtailed violently, lost control on the wet road, and crashed hard into a concrete highway barrier.
Evelyn slammed on the brakes, stopping their smoking vehicle just a few yards away from the wreckage.
They carefully approached the overturned ambulance, their weapons drawn and ready.
The mercenary in the back was unconscious, and the Boston pediatrician was trapped behind the crushed steering wheel.
Evelyn climbed into the shattered rear compartment to look for Antonio.
She found a medical stretcher strapped to the wall, securely bolted in place.
May you like
But Antonio was not on it.
Instead, the stretcher held a highly sophisticated, ticking explosive device with less than two minutes on the timer.
