Chapter 4 - The Interrogation

I sat up in my hospital bed, ignoring the sharp pain of my surgical incisions.
I told my parents that Victoria would never run away without securing her own financial future.
She was the public relations director of Julian's company, meaning she knew all of his digital passwords.
I knew exactly where she would go to hide from the authorities and the cartel.
I told my father to send his elite strike team to Julian's secret offshore bank vault in the Cayman Islands.
My father made a single phone call, deploying a specialized unit to intercept her.
Four hours later, my father received a live video feed on his secure tablet.
The tactical team had cornered Victoria in the lobby of a private Caribbean bank.
She was holding a loaded pistol to her own head, demanding a private jet.
My father handed the tablet to me so I could speak directly to the woman who nearly killed my baby.
I looked at her terrified face through the screen and felt absolutely no pity.
I told Victoria that Julian was going to let the cartel murder her to cover his own tracks.
I promised her full federal immunity if she surrendered the encryption keys to his smuggling operation.
Victoria hesitated, her hands shaking violently as the tactical lasers painted her chest.
She lowered the weapon and dropped to her knees in complete surrender.
She looked into the camera and told me I was entirely wrong about Julian's grand plan.
She revealed that Julian never actually intended to pay the cartel with the life insurance money.
He was planning to steal the cartel's entire weapons shipment and sell it to a rival syndicate.
Victoria let out a dark, cynical laugh that echoed through the tablet speakers.

She told me that I needed to check my son's hospital incubator right now.
She confessed that Julian had bribed a corrupt nurse to plant a tracking device inside the baby's blanket.
