Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

The corrupt doctor's eyes widened in massive surprise when he saw us standing at the bottom of the basement stairs.

He quickly recovered his composure, raising the sharp scalpel like a weapon and stepping firmly between us and Emma.

He coldly explained that Greg paid him an absolute fortune to identify and secure prime genetic subjects for the illegal trials.

I did not waste any time trying to reason with a monster who actively tortured innocent children for money.

I charged forward blindly, tackling the doctor with a desperate, overwhelming maternal fury.

We crashed heavily into a metal tray of glass medical instruments, sending sharp shards flying dangerously across the sterile floor.

He slashed blindly at me with the scalpel, cutting a deep, agonizing gash across my left forearm.

I ignored the burning pain entirely, grabbing a heavy oxygen canister and smashing it violently against the side of his head.

The doctor collapsed onto the cold floor, completely unconscious and bleeding from his temple.

I scrambled up to the examination table and frantically unbuckled the thick leather straps binding Emma to the metal surface.

She threw her little arms around my neck, sobbing uncontrollably into my bruised shoulder.

I grabbed Lily's hand, supporting Sarah's weight as we all rushed frantically back up the wooden basement stairs.

Just as we reached the main floor of the cabin, the front door violently burst open from the outside.

Greg stood in the doorway, flanked heavily by four armed mercenaries with their automatic weapons raised.

He smiled cruelly and said we had caused him entirely too much expensive trouble for one day.

He ordered the guards to shoot Sarah and me, but to keep the valuable children completely unharmed.

Before the guards could pull their triggers, Lily stepped forward and stood directly in front of us.

She was holding a lethal, loaded syringe she had secretly grabbed from the basement laboratory tray.

She pressed the sharp needle firmly against her own neck and stared directly at her father.
