Chapter 3 - The Shadow Investor

I stared at the financial documents, feeling the color drain from my face.

My parents had used Jake as a human shield for their financial crimes.

If they defaulted on the syndicate loan, those ruthless men would not go after my parents.

They would come directly for my twenty-year-old brother.

I asked the attorney how much time we had before the first payment was due.

He checked his notes and told me we had exactly three days.

I threw the medical blanket off my legs and demanded my crutches.

The nurses tried to stop me, but the sheer determination in my eyes made them back away.

I directed my attorney to set up a massive offshore holding company immediately.

I was going to use my lottery winnings to buy the syndicate debt anonymously.

I wanted to become my parents’ worst nightmare without them ever knowing my name.

By Tuesday afternoon, the holding company was fully operational and funded with two million dollars.

My attorney contacted the syndicate and purchased the forged loan at a premium price.

I now owned the debt, which meant I owned my parents.

I sat in my apartment, watching a live stream on social media.

Madison was broadcasting from the deck of her stolen yacht, popping champagne and showing off her designer clothes.

She laughed at the camera, complaining about how annoying poor people were.

She had absolutely no idea that the boat she was standing on legally belonged to me.

I picked up my burner phone and dialed my father’s number.

I used a voice-altering software program provided by my private security team.

When my father answered, I told him I was the new owner of his syndicate debt.

I demanded the entire half-million dollars paid in full by midnight, or I would take the yacht.

My father laughed nervously and told me to talk to his son Jake, claiming the debt belonged to him.
