Chapter 7 - The Empty Vault

I felt my knees buckle, and I leaned heavily against the kitchen counter to stop myself from falling.

"What do you mean he drained it?" I gasped into the phone, my voice completely broken.

Mr. Henderson explained that Arthur had used an automated offshore wire transfer to bypass the bank's manual security checks.

Over four million dollars meant for my son's future was completely gone.

"He transferred it to an untraceable shell corporation registered in a foreign tax haven," Mr. Henderson revealed.

I hung up the phone and slowly slid down the cabinets until I hit the kitchen floor.

Arthur had initiated the massive wire transfer right before he drove to my house playing the innocent victim.

He knew Kevin was going to get caught, so he secured the stolen money as his ultimate backup plan.

The police had Arthur locked in a holding cell, but the stolen funds were legally out of their immediate jurisdiction.

I spent the rest of the night sitting in the dark, wondering how I was going to fix this massive disaster.

The next morning, Chloe came down the stairs, looking entirely exhausted but resolute.

I told her about the stolen trust fund, expecting her to panic alongside me.

Instead, Chloe's eyes narrowed, and a sharp, calculating expression crossed her face.

"Kevin keeps a hidden ledger in his golf bag detailing every illegal account Arthur has ever opened," Chloe revealed quietly.

She explained that Kevin never fully trusted his own father and kept the ledger as blackmail material.

We drove straight to Chloe's house and frantically tore through the garage.

Inside a hidden pocket of Kevin's expensive golf bag, we found a small, encrypted black hard drive.

I rushed the drive straight to the police station and handed it directly to the lead cyber detective.

It took the police technicians three agonizing hours to finally crack the encryption password.

When the files opened, they exposed a sprawling web of offshore accounts, fake companies, and money laundering schemes.

But the final folder on the drive contained a secret so horrifying it made my blood run entirely cold.

Arthur had not just stolen Noah's money to make himself incredibly rich.

He had transferred the entire four million dollars to a notorious underground syndicate.

Arthur had taken out a massive, illegal contract to have someone permanently eliminated.

And the target listed on the assassination contract was me.
