Chapter 8 - The Federal Raid
Margaret stared at General Vance, her mind racing to process the sheer magnitude of the betrayal.
The base commander was not a righteous leader; he was deeply involved in Ethan's lucrative criminal enterprise.
The military police officers immediately stepped forward, grabbing Margaret's arms and forcing her roughly to her knees.
Olivia sobbed uncontrollably in the wrecked SUV, realizing they had driven directly into the lion's den.
Ethan smiled a wicked, victorious smile, finally feeling completely safe under the protection of a corrupt general.
"Take them to the secure holding facility in the black site bunker," General Vance ordered coldly.
"Make sure they do not speak to anyone until I have personally interrogated them."
Margaret did not fight against the guards, nor did she beg for mercy.
Instead, she looked directly into General Vance's eyes and let out a soft, mocking laugh.
"You really think I came to a hostile military base without backup?" Margaret asked smoothly.
She reached up and tapped a tiny, nearly invisible earpiece hidden deep inside her right ear.
"You can move in now, Director."
Suddenly, the deafening roar of multiple helicopter blades completely shattered the tense silence of the checkpoint.
Three massive, unmarked black helicopters descended rapidly from the dark, rainy sky.
Dozens of federal FBI agents and elite Department of Defense tactical teams poured onto the tarmac.
They heavily outnumbered the corrupt military police officers by an overwhelming, terrifying margin.
"Drop your weapons immediately!" the lead federal agent screamed, pointing his rifle directly at General Vance's chest.
General Vance froze, realizing that Margaret had been wearing a live wire broadcasting directly to the Pentagon for the entire night.
His entire criminal conspiracy had just been exposed to the highest levels of the United States government.
The military police officers wisely dropped their rifles and raised their hands in absolute surrender.
Federal agents swarmed General Vance, roughly snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
In the chaotic confusion of the massive federal raid, everyone temporarily lost sight of Major Brooks.
Ethan realized his life was completely over, and pure, unfiltered panic entirely consumed his rational mind.

He pulled his silver handgun from his holster and violently dragged Olivia out of the wrecked SUV by her hair.
He wrapped his arm tightly around her neck, pressing the cold, sharp blade of a combat knife directly against her pregnant belly.
