Chapter 1 - The Hidden Evidence

The room fell into a terrifying, suffocating silence.
Ethan stared at the small black device in Olivia's trembling hand.
His decorated military career flashed before his eyes in a matter of seconds.
"Give that to me right now," Ethan demanded, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper.
Margaret stepped smoothly between her pregnant daughter and the angry major.
"You will not take another step toward her," Margaret ordered with absolute authority.
Diane panicked and rushed toward the bed to snatch the recorder away.
Olivia pulled her hand back, clutching the device tightly against her chest.
"I recorded everything you said to me for the last two weeks," Olivia said, her voice shaking but defiant.
"You admitted to forging my signature on the trust documents."
Ethan's face turned completely red with unrestrained fury.
He lunged forward, attempting to shove his mother-in-law out of the way.
He severely underestimated the reflexes of a retired military investigator.
Margaret grabbed his wrist, twisted it sharply, and drove her elbow directly into his chest.
Ethan stumbled backward and crashed heavily into the wooden dresser.
"I am a senior investigator for the Department of Defense," Margaret warned him coldly.
"If you touch me again, I will have you court-martialed and imprisoned before midnight."
Diane screamed, threatening to call the police and have Margaret arrested for assault.
"Please do call them," Margaret replied, pulling out her own federal badge.
"I would love to explain these bruises to the local authorities."
Ethan slowly stood up, rubbing his bruised chest with a sinister smile.
He realized that brute force was not going to work against a trained officer.
"You really think a cheap recording is going to destroy me?" Ethan laughed mockingly.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a heavy silver handgun.

He pointed the weapon directly at Margaret's head.
"Nobody is leaving this house alive."
