Chapter 9 - The Final Standoff

Vance checked his weapon, his jaw set in a grim line of absolute, unwavering determination.
"Stay in the car," Vance ordered, but I shook my head fiercely.
"This is my fight too," I insisted, stepping out of the vehicle with the legal documents in hand.

The place had been entirely ransacked, expensive art destroyed and antique furniture overturned.
Margaret was standing in the center of the grand living room, holding a gun to Arthur's head.
Arthur looked bruised and battered, but his eyes remained sharp, proud, and defiant.
"Give me the documents, Clara, or the old man dies," Margaret demanded with a wicked grin.

"Take it," I said calmly, stepping within arm's reach of my evil mother-in-law.
Margaret smiled triumphantly, releasing Arthur to aggressively snatch the paper from my hands.
"You were always a pathetic, weak girl," Margaret mocked, unfolding the critical document.
"And now I legally own the entire Sterling empire."
I looked at Arthur, and he gave me a nearly imperceptible, confirming nod.
"You don't own anything, Margaret," I whispered coldly.
I pressed the large diamond button on Arthur's smart watch resting on the table beside me.
Thick, bulletproof titanium walls instantly slammed down over every window and door in the room.

The cartel soldiers on the balcony were completely sealed out of the lower level.
Hidden vents in the ceiling hissed loudly, pumping highly concentrated sleeping gas directly into the sealed room.
