Chapter 4 - The Ultimate Ransom

Margaret pressed the cold barrel of her pistol directly against Maya's temple.
My sister sobbed quietly through the dirty gag in her mouth, her eyes wide with sheer terror.
Vance raised his weapon, but the three mercenaries instantly aimed their red laser sights at his chest.
"Drop the gun, Vance, or the little girl loses her head," Margaret warned with a cruel laugh.
Vance slowly lowered his pistol and kicked it safely across the concrete floor.
"What do you want, Margaret?" I demanded, stepping forward with my hands raised in surrender.
"I want the silver ring on your left hand," Margaret sneered, her eyes gleaming with unhidden greed.
"Take it off and slide it across the floor, or you will watch your sister die."
I reached for the ring, my fingers trembling violently under the intense pressure.
I knew that the moment I handed over the key, she would execute all of us anyway.
I stalled for precious time, struggling to pull the ring over my swollen, bruised knuckle.
"Hurry up, Clara, my patience is wearing incredibly thin," Margaret snapped angrily.
Suddenly, the heavy metal doors of the warehouse violently blew open with a deafening crash.
A sleek black sports car drifted into the building, its high beams blinding the startled mercenaries.
Julian stepped out of the driver's side, holding a sleek, military-grade automatic rifle.
He didn't aim it at me or Vance.
He aimed it directly at his own mother.
Julian pulled the trigger, firing a precise burst that dropped two of the mercenaries instantly.
The third mercenary panicked and fired blindly into the dark warehouse.
Julian took him down flawlessly with a single shot to the chest.
Margaret screamed in horror, dropping her pistol and diving behind a rusted metal shipping container.

Julian walked over to me, his eyes filled with a desperate, pleading emotion.
"I had to pretend to be on her side to find out where she was keeping your sister," Julian swore.
