Chapter 3 - The Frozen Funds

I frantically refreshed the banking application, praying that the zero balance was just a temporary digital glitch.
The screen reloaded perfectly, confirming that every single penny of my life savings was completely gone.
My husband had used our joint account access to wire the entire sum to an untraceable offshore routing number.
He was actively cutting off all my resources to ensure I could not fight back or hire a lawyer.
Panic clawed at my throat as I looked over at my sleeping daughter.
I had exactly forty dollars in my physical wallet and a credit card that I knew would be declined.
I needed to secure a powerful attorney immediately before my husband could execute the rest of his twisted plan.
I scrolled through my contacts and found the number for Sarah, a ruthless family law attorney I knew from college.
She answered on the second ring, sensing the pure desperation in my trembling voice.
I quickly explained the shaved head, the pediatrician's report, and the horrifying audio recording I had found.
Sarah ordered me to stay locked inside the hotel room and promised she would run a background check on court filings.
Ten agonizing minutes later, she called me back, and her professional tone was entirely gone.
“You need to grab your daughter and leave that hotel right now,” Sarah urged frantically.
She told me my husband had just filed an ex-parte emergency custody order with the family court.
He had officially accused me of shaving my own daughter's head during a dangerous schizophrenic episode.
Worse still, he had claimed that I had kidnapped the child to perform a ritualistic harm ceremony.

A loud, aggressive pounding suddenly echoed against the heavy wooden door of my hotel room.
“Police department, open the door immediately with your hands visible!” a gruff voice shouted from the hallway.
