Chapter 4 - The Trojan Horse

"Alert base security!" one of my analysts shouted.

"Stand down," I ordered, keeping my voice dangerously calm.

"Let them come up to my office."

My team looked at me as if I had lost my mind, but they followed my command.

I walked down the corridor and stepped into my private office, leaving the door slightly cracked.

Two minutes later, Ryan and Linda burst into the room.

Ryan sneered when he saw me sitting behind the heavy mahogany desk in my dress uniform.

"You think this little dress-up game protects you?" Ryan demanded.

"Unlock the bank accounts right now, or I will hand these over to the Inspector General."

He slammed a thick folder onto my desk.

I opened it and found dozens of forged documents showing I had been selling military secrets for cash.

They were going to frame me for the very treason they were committing.

"You can't prove any of this," I said, playing the role of a terrified wife.

Linda smiled that same satisfied, evil smile she wore when she shaved my head.

"We don't have to prove it," Linda whispered.

"We just have to create enough doubt to get you suspended and your security clearance revoked."

"You are going to log into your terminal, transfer the money back, and resign."

I looked at the electronic keycard Linda was still holding in her hand.

"Where did you get that access card, Linda?" I asked.

"A good friend provided it," she sneered.

I memorized the serial number stamped on the plastic card before she put it away.

It was a master override code, issued exclusively to two-star generals.

The exact same rank as the man who had personally promoted me yesterday.
