Chapter 8 - The Ultimatum

The gunshot echoed over the crashing waves of the dark ocean.
Nora gasped in shock as a bloom of dark blood spread across her white blouse.
She collapsed onto the wooden deck of the yacht, her rifle clattering uselessly into the water.
"Your daughter has been dead for five years, you stupid woman," Marcus laughed cruelly.
I screamed in rage and tried to lunge at him, but two massive bodyguards grabbed my arms.
Marcus dragged Amelia forward, pressing the barrel of his revolver against her temple.
"Julian!" Amelia cried out, fresh tears streaming down her pale face.
"I am right here, sweetheart, I am not leaving you," I promised, fighting hopelessly against the guards.
Marcus gestured to one of his men, who handed me a loaded, heavy black pistol.
"We are going to play a final game, little brother," Marcus announced.
He pointed a second gun directly at Lily, who was shivering near the edge of the boat.
"You have exactly ten seconds to shoot your beloved wife," Marcus demanded.
"If you do not put a bullet in Amelia's heart right now, I will throw Lily into the ocean."
I stared at the heavy gun in my hands, my entire world collapsing into absolute despair.
"Do it, Julian, save our baby!" Amelia begged, closing her eyes in acceptance.
"Five seconds left," Marcus mocked, cocking the hammer of his gun.
I raised the weapon, pointing it directly at the woman I loved more than life itself.
But as I looked into Amelia's eyes, I saw her subtly glance down toward the pocket of her hospital gown.
I realized she had managed to steal something from the guards.
I quickly turned the heavy pistol around and pressed the barrel directly under my own chin.

Marcus flinched in absolute surprise, completely unprepared for my suicidal move.
In that singular moment of distraction, Amelia pulled a bright orange flare gun from her pocket and fired it directly into Marcus's chest.
