Chapter 5 - The Trap is Sprung

Marcus smiled exactly the way he had in the video.
"You always were too curious for your own good, Julian," he mocked.
"Where is she, Marcus?" I growled, stepping toward him despite the gun.
He raised the weapon slightly, aiming it directly at my forehead.
"She is taking a permanent nap in the basement incinerator room," he laughed.
I felt a surge of blinding rage and lunged at my own brother.
Before I could reach him, three heavily armed guards stepped out from the shadows of the hallway.
They slammed the butts of their rifles into my stomach, dropping me to the floor in agony.
Marcus stood over me, straightening his expensive suit jacket.
"Our father left the entire family trust to you, Julian, and I simply could not allow that," he explained.
"You faked her death to break me," I gasped, coughing up a small amount of blood.
"I needed you declared mentally incompetent so I could take control of the estate," he confessed proudly.
Marcus nodded to his men, signaling them to finish the job.
"Shoot him, and make sure they never find the body," Marcus ordered.
He turned his back on me and walked away down the dark corridor.
One of the guards raised his rifle and aimed it at my face.
I closed my eyes, preparing for the inevitable end.
But instead of a gunshot aimed at me, two suppressed shots echoed through the small room.
I opened my eyes to see the other two guards collapsing to the floor in pools of blood.

The man who had just shot them lowered his weapon and offered me his hand.
"Amelia hired me to investigate your brother five years ago," the guard whispered.
