Chapter 8 - The Siege

The clinic’s head of security rushed into the waiting room.
"They are breaching the front doors!" the guard shouted, handing Dante a loaded shotgun.
Dante racked a shell into the chamber, his eyes burning with a dangerous fire.
"Nobody gets past this hallway," Dante ordered.
He positioned himself behind a thick concrete pillar just as the front doors exploded.
Wood and glass rained down on the tile floor.
Cartel soldiers flooded into the lobby, firing automatic weapons blindly.
Dante returned fire with deadly precision, taking down the first wave of attackers.
He moved with the brutal efficiency of the ruthless mob boss he was.
Bullets chipped the concrete around his head, but he refused to step back.
He was the only thing standing between these monsters and his wife.
Inside the trauma room, Amara squeezed her eyes shut as another contraction hit.
The doctor administered a medication to slow her premature labor.
"You need to stay calm, Mrs. Moretti, or we will lose the baby," the doctor urged over the sound of gunfire.
Amara tried to breathe, but the terrifying noise of the battle outside was deafening.
Suddenly, the gunfire stopped.
An eerie, heavy silence fell over the clinic.
Amara heard heavy footsteps approaching the trauma room door.
Someone keyed in the override code.
The heavy door slowly swung open.
Amara braced herself, expecting a cartel assassin to walk through.
Instead, Dante staggered into the room.

His suit was torn to shreds, and blood poured from a gunshot wound in his side.
He dropped the empty shotgun and collapsed onto the floor.
