Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Pen

Grant frantically grabbed the CFO by his expensive silk collar and hoisted him out of his chair.

He violently demanded to know where the eighty-five million dollars had just gone.

The terrified executive choked out that the funds had been routed to an encrypted offshore trust.

Grant violently shoved the man away and sprinted out of the boardroom toward his private office.

He needed to physically confront Natalie and force her to reverse the massive transaction.

He slammed his shoulder against his office door, only to find it heavily barricaded from the inside.

Grant furiously kicked the thick oak wood, screaming empty threats into the silent hallway.

Lauren suddenly appeared at the end of the corridor, holding her designer purse tightly against her chest.

She hurried over to Grant and whispered that they still had one final desperate option.

Lauren revealed that she had secretly copied the digital access keys to Natalie's family trust fund months ago.

She claimed they could use those keys to completely drain the Whitmore family fortune before fleeing the country.

Grant’s eyes lit up with a dark, greedy desperation as he praised her brilliant deception.

He quickly led Lauren down the emergency stairwell toward the underground server room.

He bypassed the biometric scanner using a hidden master override code he had stolen from his own security team.

The heavy steel doors hissed open, revealing rows of massive, blinking digital servers.

Grant ordered Lauren to plug her flash drive into the main terminal to initiate the devastating hack.

Lauren reached into her expensive purse with a cold, calculating smile on her face.

She did not pull out a digital flash drive.

She pulled out a heavy, suppressed silver handgun and aimed it directly at Grant's chest.

Lauren calmly informed him that the CFO had actually hired her to destroy the Holloway marriage from the very beginning.
