Chapter 7 - The Bloody Glass

"Are you sure Richard's men will find her tonight?" Selina asked, taking a sip of the dark bourbon.

"My father owns half the police force in Chicago, she will not get far," Flynn replied with absolute arrogance.

I covered my mouth with both hands, trying desperately to stifle the sound of my ragged, panicked breathing.

"Good, because if she makes it to a lawyer with that video, we are both going to federal prison," Selina muttered nervously.

"She doesn't have the video, I personally wiped the cloud servers this morning," Flynn chuckled, kissing her neck.

My hand brushed against the physical hard drive still plugged into the open safe right behind the desk.

Flynn had absolutely no idea that I had backed the footage up manually weeks ago.

"Once we declare her legally dead, the Vance Global shares revert to me, and we can finally get married," Flynn promised her.

I felt a surge of pure, burning hatred completely replace the terror in my chest.

Suddenly, Flynn pulled away from the romantic embrace and frowned in confusion.

"Why is the wall safe open?" Flynn asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous, low octave.

He took a slow, deliberate step toward the mahogany desk where I was hiding.

I realized in that terrible moment that I had absolutely no choices left.

I grabbed a heavy bronze paperweight from the floor and stood up, facing my murderous husband.

Flynn stared at me in absolute shock, dropping his crystal glass onto the hardwood floor.

The glass shattered into a thousand pieces, echoing loudly in the quiet study.

"Mabel?" he gasped, completely caught off guard by my sudden appearance.

I did not hesitate for a single second.

I hurled the heavy bronze paperweight directly at his face with all the remaining strength I had left.

The metal struck him squarely in the forehead, sending him crashing backward into the bookshelves with a loud thud.

Selina let out a piercing, terrified scream, dropping her own expensive drink.

I grabbed the physical hard drive from the safe and sprinted toward the open door.

Selina lunged at me, her sharp manicured nails clawing viciously at my face.

"You are not ruining this life for me!" Selina shrieked, grabbing a tight fistful of my hair.

The sudden, violent movement ripped at my surgical stitches, sending a blinding wave of agony through my abdomen.

I pivoted sharply, driving my elbow brutally into Selina's nose.

May you like

She cried out in pain, stumbling backward and tripping clumsily over the shattered glass on the floor.

I did not look back as I ran down the hallway and burst out the front door into the freezing rain.
