Chapter 3 - The Golden Cage

The pregnant woman stared at me as if I were a crazy person.
She introduced herself as Chloe and demanded to know why I was harassing her.
I told her that Dustin and I had been legally married for seven years.
Chloe laughed and shook her head in complete disbelief.
"Dustin is a widower," Chloe stated firmly.
She claimed that Dustin's first wife had died in a tragic car accident three years ago.
I felt all the blood drain entirely from my face.
Dustin had not just stolen my money and bought a secret house.
He had completely erased my existence to start a new family.
I told Chloe that I was very much alive and that she was wearing my grandmother's necklace.
Chloe looked down at the diamond pendant and then back up at me with sudden fear.
She stepped back into the massive foyer and tried to slam the heavy door.
I put my foot in the doorway to stop her from closing it.
"He stole my life savings to buy this house," I pleaded.
Before Chloe could answer, a luxury sports car pulled into the driveway.
Dustin stepped out of the expensive vehicle wearing a tailored suit.
He saw me standing on the porch and did not look surprised at all.
He casually walked up the stone steps with a chilling smile on his face.
"I see you finally met my beautiful bride," Dustin said smoothly.
I screamed at him and demanded my money back immediately.
Dustin ignored my anger and gently pushed Chloe back inside the house.
He stepped inside the foyer and pulled a small remote control from his pocket.
He pressed a red button and the heavy iron gates at the end of the driveway slammed shut.
"You really should not have come here, Audrey," Dustin whispered.

The heavy wooden front door slammed shut right in my face.
I turned around to leave, but three large men in dark suits were already walking up the driveway toward me.
