Chapter 9 - The Hostage Standoff

The wealthy guests screamed in absolute terror, scattering wildly to hide beneath the luxurious tables.
The police officers instantly drew their heavy weapons, screaming aggressive commands for Spencer to drop the gun.
Spencer ignored the police completely, grabbing Cassandra roughly by her champagne-soaked hair.
He violently yanked her in front of him, using his terrified, sobbing mistress as a desperate human shield.
"Nobody take a single step closer, or I will blow her brains out!" Spencer roared frantically.
Cassandra screamed hysterically, crying and begging for someone to save her from the monster she had chosen to love.
Spencer's hands were shaking violently as he pressed the cold barrel of the gun against her temple.
He slowly shifted his crazed, bloodshot eyes across the room until they locked perfectly onto my face.
"You completely ruined my perfect life, Gwen!" he screamed, spitting angrily as he spoke.
"I gave you a roof over your head, and you destroyed my entire legacy!"
I stood perfectly still, refusing to cower before a weak man holding a stolen weapon.
"You destroyed your own life the exact moment you let that woman strike my daughter," I replied with absolute, icy calm.
My father tried to pull me behind his protective frame, but I stood my ground firmly in the open.
Spencer shifted the heavy barrel of the gun away from Cassandra's head and pointed it directly at my heart.
"If I am going to prison forever, I am definitely taking you straight to hell with me!" Spencer threatened wildly.
He placed his trembling finger firmly onto the heavy metal trigger.
The police officers hesitated, completely terrified of hitting Cassandra in the chaotic crossfire.
I closed my eyes for a brief fraction of a second, praying that Hazel would always know how much I truly loved her.
Suddenly, a terrifyingly calm voice echoed directly from the dark shadows near the exit doors.
"You really should have read the fine print on that massive loan contract, Spencer," the syndicate enforcer said smoothly.
Spencer flinched violently at the sound of the brutal criminal's unexpected voice.
The enforcer slowly stepped out of the shadows, holding his own heavily suppressed weapon with terrifying, practiced ease.
"The contract strictly forbids the borrower from damaging the guarantor before the debt is fully settled," the enforcer stated coldly.

Spencer frantically tried to aim his weapon back and forth between me and the lethal enforcer.
He was completely trapped in a massive, deadly standoff that he had absolutely no chance of winning.
