Chapter 1 - The Ride to Freedom

I held my daughter tightly against my chest as I walked down the long driveway of the Bel Air mansion.

The cool evening air brushed against my face to dry my tears.

The fire of absolute vengeance burned deeply inside my veins.

A sleek black limousine was already waiting at the massive iron gates.

Thomas, my family’s most trusted butler, stood perfectly straight beside the open car door.

He bowed his head with profound respect as I approached.

It was a level of respect I had not experienced in six agonizing years.

"Welcome back, Ms. Crawford," Thomas said with a warm smile.

I climbed into the luxurious leather seat and wrapped a thick blanket around Hazel.

My sweet little girl was still trembling from the horrific incident in the living room.

"Mommy, are we going to see a doctor?" she asked with a slight lisp from her missing teeth.

I kissed her forehead gently and smoothed her messy hair.

"Yes, sweetheart, the best doctors in the world are waiting for you," I promised her.

The limousine pulled away from the Albright estate, leaving that nightmare behind us forever.

For six years, I had hidden my true identity to prove that Spencer loved me for who I was, not for my money.

I had given up my billionaire inheritance to live as a humble housewife.

I had endured his mother's endless cruelty and his blatant affairs to keep our family together.

But tonight, he crossed a line that could never be uncrossed.

He allowed his mistress to strike my child.

The limousine smoothly navigated the winding roads toward the massive Crawford family estate in Beverly Hills.

When we arrived, a team of private pediatric specialists was already standing by in the grand foyer.

They gently carried Hazel away to the medical wing to treat her injured mouth.

I walked slowly into the main study, where my father, Richard Crawford, was waiting for me.

He was a legendary titan of Wall Street, and his eyes softened the moment he saw my bruised soul.

"You finally came home, Gwen," he whispered, pulling me into a fierce embrace.

I broke down in his arms, releasing six years of pent-up pain and humiliation.

"I need you to destroy Albright Enterprises tonight, Father," I said with absolute conviction.

Richard smiled a dangerous, predatory smile that made his business rivals tremble.

"Thomas has already initiated the asset freeze, my dear," Richard confirmed.

Thomas walked into the study a moment later, holding a thick red folder.

His usual calm expression was replaced by a look of deep concern.

"Ms. Crawford, we found a severe anomaly while auditing your husband's corporate accounts," Thomas announced.

I wiped my tears and opened the heavy folder to inspect the financial documents.

My blood ran completely cold as I read the forged signatures on the loan agreements.

Spencer had secretly used my dormant social security number to secure a billion-dollar loan.

He had not borrowed the money from a traditional bank.

May you like

He had borrowed it from a ruthless, underground syndicate known for destroying their debtors.

And the syndicate's primary enforcer was scheduled to attend the Grand Pinnacle Gala tonight to collect the collateral.
