Chapter 7 - The Absolute Ruin

Serena gestured to Marcus, who tapped a few commands into his tablet.
The massive projection screen behind the stage flickered to life.
Every single one of Nathan’s darkest financial secrets was suddenly magnified to twenty feet tall for the entire room to see.
There were bank statements detailing his massive gambling debts.
There were copies of the secret loans he had taken out against his mother’s estate without her knowledge.
And there were the receipts for the luxury apartment he had secretly purchased for Vanessa in downtown Miami.
Eleanor let out a piercing scream as she saw the mortgage documents for her own home flashing on the screen.
"You mortgaged my house?!" Eleanor shrieked, charging at her son and slapping him violently across the face.
Nathan stumbled back, his cheek burning bright red from the impact.
Camille burst into tears, covering her face in humiliation as the socialites around her began whispering maliciously.
"Your business is completely bankrupt, Nathan," Serena announced, her voice echoing perfectly over the chaos.
"As of this moment, Ashford Capital is calling in every single one of its loans to Langley Meridian Group."
Nathan looked up at the projection screen, realizing the magnitude of his absolute ruin.
His company was dead.
His reputation was completely shattered.
He was going to lose everything he had spent his entire life trying to build.
"You can't do this!" Nathan screamed, his voice breaking with sheer panic.
"I am your husband, I am entitled to half of your assets in the divorce!"
Serena smiled, a look of pure, triumphant pity crossing her beautiful face.
"Did you forget the prenuptial agreement we signed seven years ago?" Serena asked softly.
Nathan froze, his eyes widening in horror as he remembered the document he had forced her to sign.
He had demanded the ironclad prenup because he thought she was a broke waitress trying to steal his future wealth.
"You demanded that in the event of a divorce, neither party could claim the other's pre-existing assets or corporate holdings," Serena reminded him.
The crowd of elite business leaders actually began to laugh at the sheer poetic justice of his stupidity.
Nathan had built an impenetrable wall to protect his money from her, completely unaware that he was actually locking himself out of her multi-billion-dollar empire.
He fell to his knees on the marble floor, completely defeated, his fake empire crumbling to dust around him.
But Serena wasn't finished.
She looked at Vanessa, who was sobbing uncontrollably near the heavy brass doors.
"You thought you were stealing a king, Vanessa," Serena said coldly.
"But you only stole a beggar who was spending my money."
Suddenly, Vanessa’s tears stopped, and her expression twisted into something dark and vicious.

"He isn't just a beggar, Serena," Vanessa yelled, desperate to save herself by completely destroying him.
"He is a murderer, and I have the proof right here."
