Chapter 2 - The Rising Storm

The private helicopter tore through the dark Florida sky, heading straight toward the glowing skyline of Miami.
Serena sat in the plush leather seat, staring down at the city lights reflecting off the ocean.
She held her tablet in her lap, scrolling through the confidential financial reports Marcus had forwarded to her.
Langley Meridian Group was bleeding money from every single department.
Nathan had made a series of reckless investments in commercial real estate over the last twelve months.
He had drained his company’s liquid assets to fund his lavish lifestyle and his expensive affair with Vanessa.
The only reason his company hadn't completely collapsed was because Ashford Capital kept quietly injecting funds into his accounts.
He genuinely believed his own brilliance was keeping his business afloat.
He had no idea that his quiet, obedient wife was the sole chairwoman approving those financial lifelines.
"Marcus, tell me about the guest list for tonight," Serena ordered through her headset.
Marcus, sitting across from her in the cabin, tapped on his laptop screen.
"Everyone who matters in South Florida will be there, Ms. Ashford," Marcus replied.
"The mayor, the banking commissioners, and the entire board of directors for the Coastal Legacy Foundation."
Serena nodded, her expression hardening as they approached the helipad on the roof of her private Miami penthouse.
"Nathan is planning something big tonight," she murmured.
"He wouldn't have brought Vanessa into the spotlight unless he felt completely untouchable."
The helicopter touched down smoothly, and a team of private security guards immediately escorted Serena inside the luxury penthouse.
Waiting for her was a team of elite stylists, makeup artists, and a breathtaking, custom-made crimson evening gown.
The dress was a masterpiece of silk and hand-sewn crystals, designed to command absolute authority.
As the stylists worked meticulously on her hair, Marcus stood nearby holding a secure tablet.
"Ms. Ashford, our intelligence team just intercepted a heavily encrypted email from Nathan’s corporate account," Marcus said, his voice tense.
Serena met Marcus's eyes through the reflection in the vanity mirror.
"Read it," she commanded.
"He has drafted a hostile takeover agreement," Marcus explained, reading the document.
"He intends to merge Langley Meridian Group with a shell corporation tonight to erase all his debts."
Serena frowned, knowing that such a merger required the explicit signature of his primary investor.
"He can't do that without Ashford Capital's direct authorization," Serena stated flatly.
Marcus turned the tablet around so Serena could see the glowing screen.

"That is the problem, ma'am," Marcus said softly.
On the bottom of the digital contract was a perfect, digitally forged copy of Serena's signature, signed under the name Serena Ashford.
