Chapter 9 - The Biometric Trap

The sheer, diabolical genius of Daniel's backup plan left the entire command center in a state of stunned silence.

He had essentially turned himself into a living, breathing detonator, ensuring that if he was killed or harmed in custody, my world would burn.

"We cannot interrogate him forcefully, and we cannot risk him going into cardiac arrest," the police commander swore loudly.

Liam slammed his fist against the side of the armored truck in pure frustration.

"We have to move him to a highly secure medical facility and keep him stabilized while the tech team hacks the signal," Liam suggested urgently.

The commander immediately dispatched a heavily armed medical convoy to the downtown precinct to secure Daniel.

Meanwhile, the bomb squad technicians inside my house began the agonizingly slow process of trying to bypass the digital receiver.

I sat on the bumper of the police truck, wrapping a thermal blanket around my shivering shoulders as the sun began to set.

I had spent years enduring Daniel's abuse, fighting for my freedom, and exposing a massive criminal syndicate.

Now, the final battle for my sanctuary rested entirely in the hands of strangers wearing thick blast suits.

Hours ticked by in excruciating, agonizing suspense, the only sound being the hum of the massive police generators.

Finally, a cheer erupted from the command tent as the lead cyber technician ripped his headset off.

"We did it!" the technician shouted triumphantly.

"We successfully spoofed the biometric signal and completely severed the connection to the explosive device."

The bomb squad commander gave the order, and the technicians inside the house physically snipped the detonator wires, neutralizing the threat forever.

I buried my face in my hands and wept tears of absolute, overwhelming relief.

My house was saved, my life was finally my own, and the nightmare was officially over.

The police cleared the scene just after midnight, allowing me to finally walk back through the front doors of my home.

Liam stayed by my side, sweeping the house room by room to ensure it was completely safe and empty.

The muddy garden beds outside were still filled with Daniel's ruined, expensive clothing, a beautiful testament to my hard-won victory.

I walked into the kitchen, poured myself a large glass of expensive red wine, and let out a long, exhausted sigh.

The entire criminal family was locked in federal holding cells, facing decades behind bars for terrorism, fraud, and attempted murder.

Mara was disbarred and facing prison time, while Arthur's corporate empire was being completely dismantled by federal auditors.

I had won the war, and I was finally ready to start a new, peaceful chapter of my life.

Liam hugged me tightly, promising that he would never leave me alone again, and went upstairs to sleep in the guest room.

I took my wine and walked into my home office, intending to lock the recovered trust documents back inside the fireproof cabinet.

As I opened the heavy metal drawer, I noticed a false bottom that had been slightly dislodged during the chaotic events of the day.

I carefully pulled the metal panel away, revealing a hidden compartment completely filled with dusty, yellowed documents.
