Chapter 9 - The Confession

The heavy locks echoed loudly through the cavernous warehouse.

I stood my ground, keeping the rifle aimed squarely at Vincent’s chest.

Vanessa laughed softly from the couch.

She stood up and walked slowly toward the cage holding Lily.

Vanessa told me I was a fool for thinking I could save everyone.

She admitted that she never loved me.

She only wanted the power that came with the Moretti name.

Vincent took a step forward, his hands empty.

He told me he fabricated the murder charges because he knew I would run.

He knew running would make me look absolutely guilty to the other families.

I asked Vincent why he needed to lock the doors if he already had the upper hand.

Vincent’s smile vanished completely.

He looked nervously toward the dark rafters above us.

He whispered that the locks were not meant to keep me inside.

The locks were meant to keep something else out.

Suddenly, the glass skylight above us shattered inward.

A figure dressed in tactical black dropped from the ceiling on a heavy rappelling rope.

The figure landed silently in the center of the room.

He raised two customized pistols and immediately shot the three Romano guards standing near Vanessa.

The guards dropped dead before they could even draw their weapons.

Vanessa screamed and fell to her knees in pure terror.

Vincent raised his gun, but the mysterious figure shot the weapon right out of his hand.

The figure slowly stood up and removed his tactical mask.

I stopped breathing entirely.

The man standing in the center of the room had my exact face.

It was my identical twin brother, Thomas.

He looked at me with cold, dead eyes.

Thomas told me it was time to take his family back.
