Chapter 10 - The False Victory

I stared at the brother I had mourned for five agonizing years.

Thomas looked older, hardened by years of living in the absolute shadows.

He did not hesitate.

Thomas walked directly to Vincent and shot him point-blank in the chest.

Vincent collapsed onto the concrete floor, dying instantly.

Vanessa tried to crawl away, sobbing uncontrollably in her ruined white coat.

Thomas grabbed her by the hair and dragged her toward the center of the room.

He forced her to her knees in front of me.

He handed me a silver flash drive.

Thomas told me the drive contained every piece of security footage and audio recording needed to clear my name.

He had spent years gathering evidence to destroy the Romanos and Vincent.

I took the drive, feeling a massive wave of triumph wash over me.

The traitors were defeated.

My name was cleared.

I walked over to the cage and shot the padlock off with my rifle.

I opened the door and pulled Lily into my arms, hugging her tightly.

I turned to Maya and quickly cut the ropes binding her wrists.

I looked at Thomas, tears of gratitude welling in my eyes.

I thanked my brother for saving my life and protecting my daughter.

I told him we could finally rebuild the Moretti empire together.

Thomas smiled gently and reached out to stroke Lily’s hair.

I felt like I had finally won the war.

Then Thomas slowly raised his pistol and aimed it directly at my forehead.

He told me I misunderstood his intentions completely.

"I didn't fake my death to protect Claire from the Romanos," Thomas whispered, his voice dripping with absolute malice.

"I orchestrated the hit on your car five years ago, and I poisoned Claire myself because she was going to tell you the truth."

Thomas pulled the hammer back on his gun.

"Lily isn't your daughter, Adrian. She is mine, and I am taking my empire back."
