Chapter 6 - The Manhunt

Panic erupted in the precinct as Daniel pointed at the security monitor.

The police immediately initiated a city-wide amber alert, dispatching every available unit to hunt for Cody's stolen vehicle.

Daniel refused to sit in the waiting room and do nothing.

He accessed the family tracking application on his phone, praying Cody had not thrown Emma’s device away.

A small blue dot flickered on the map, moving rapidly toward the abandoned industrial district on the edge of town.

Daniel sprinted to his SUV, leaving Rachel at the station to coordinate with the federal agents.

He drove recklessly, running red lights as he navigated the slick morning streets.

Inside the stolen car, Emma sat perfectly still in the passenger seat.

Cody was driving erratically, muttering to himself about how his life was entirely ruined because of her.

He kept glancing at the stolen handgun resting on his lap.

Emma knew she had to keep him talking to prevent him from doing something impulsive.

She asked him where they were going, keeping her voice as soft and non-threatening as possible.

Cody laughed bitterly and said they were going to leverage her to get his offshore money back.

Emma realized he was completely delusional and had no idea the FBI had already seized those accounts.

She subtly slipped her hand into her coat pocket, feeling the cold metal of the emergency flare pen her father had given her for camping.

Cody swerved the car into an abandoned lumber yard, slamming on the brakes.

He ordered Emma out of the car, waving the gun toward a decaying warehouse.

As they walked toward the rusted doors, Emma intentionally tripped over a piece of scrap metal.

She fell hard onto the concrete, scraping her knees.

Cody sighed in frustration and stepped forward to grab her arm.

Emma pulled the flare pen from her pocket, aimed it directly at his face, and pulled the trigger.
