Chapter 6 - The Ghost's Return

"Get down!" I yelled, shoving Lily violently off the cot and onto the floor.
Automatic gunfire shredded the thin wooden walls of the cabin, splintering everything in the room.
I covered Lily with my body, shielding her from the deadly spray of wood and glass.
The gunfire stopped abruptly, and heavy boots crunched on the gravel outside.
They were moving in to clear the structure, expecting to find two bleeding corpses.
I pulled a flashbang grenade from my black case, pulled the pin, and tossed it toward the front door.
The explosion was deafening, blinding the men stacking up on the porch.
I kicked the shattered window frame out and fired methodically into the blinding white smoke.
Two men dropped instantly, their body armor useless against the armor-piercing rounds from my pistol.
I grabbed Lily by the collar and dragged her out through the back door into the rainy night.
We sprinted into the thick tree line just as the front door of the cabin was kicked open.
Cross was shouting orders, his voice filled with venom and frustration.
"I will find you, Marcus, you have nowhere left to hide!" Cross roared into the darkness.
We ran for miles until Lily could not take another step, collapsing against a massive oak tree.
I pulled out my satellite phone to check my secure offshore bank accounts to fund our escape.
The screen loaded slowly, and my heart sank into my stomach.

Every single account had been drained to zero.
Richard and Cross had completely erased my entire existence, leaving us totally defenseless.
