Chapter 6 - The Breach

The massive yellow bulldozer tore through the concrete wall like it was made of cheap cardboard.
Cinder blocks and twisted rebar exploded into the muddy courtyard with a deafening crash.
I grabbed my rifle and sprinted out of the operations center into the freezing rain.
"Fall back to defensive line bravo!" I yelled to the trainees scattered across the compound.
Three black tactical vans poured through the massive hole in our perimeter fence.
Dozens of heavily armed cartel enforcers spilled out into the darkness, firing automatic weapons indiscriminately.
They were no longer trying to be stealthy; this was a desperate, scorched-earth assault.
"Tessa, keep them away from the infirmary at all costs," I commanded over the radio.
I dove behind a wrecked humvee just as a hail of bullets shattered the windows above my head.
My trainees executed their defensive drills with flawless, terrifying precision.
They used smoke grenades and suppressive fire to funnel the cartel soldiers into a strategic kill zone.
I tossed a flashbang over the hood of the humvee and leaned out to fire three non-lethal rounds.
Two enforcers dropped to the mud, groaning in pain as the rubber batons fractured their ribs.
Despite our tactical superiority, we were severely outnumbered by highly motivated killers.
I realized we could not hold the courtyard forever without suffering massive casualties.
I needed to cut the head off the snake to stop the relentless attack.
I scanned the chaos through my night-vision goggles, searching for the commander of the assault.
Standing near the idling bulldozer, completely shielded by four massive bodyguards, was Bradley Hawthorne.
Marissa's arrogant stepson, the one who had filmed Lily's brutal beating, was leading the charge.
I holstered my rifle and drew a specialized, high-voltage taser pistol.
I sprinted through the thick gray smoke, using the deafening gunfire as absolute cover.
I vaulted over a stack of wooden pallets and landed directly behind Bradley's heavy security detail.
I fired the taser darts directly into the back of the largest bodyguard, dropping him instantly.
Before the others could react, I swept the legs of the second guard and knocked him unconscious with a heavy strike.
Bradley turned around in sheer terror, dropping his expensive assault rifle into the mud.
He raised his shaking hands in the air and fell pathetic to his knees.
"Please don't kill me, I was just following my father's orders!" Bradley screamed.
I grabbed him aggressively by the collar of his expensive tactical jacket and dragged him behind a concrete pillar.
"Tell your men to stand down immediately, or I will break both of your legs," I threatened fiercely.
Bradley pulled a radio from his belt and screamed for his men to cease fire.
The heavy gunfire slowly sputtered to a halt, leaving only the sound of the pouring rain.
The remaining cartel enforcers lowered their weapons, confused and completely demoralized by their leader's surrender.
I dragged a weeping Bradley toward the center of the muddy courtyard for everyone to see.
Just as I thought the battle was finally won, a deafening gunshot echoed from the roof of the main barracks.
A high-caliber sniper bullet struck the mud just an inch from my right boot.

Tessa screamed over the radio, "Boss, we have a massive problem."
"Marissa just drove a truck through the back gate, and she has a gun pointed directly at Lily's head."
