Chapter 8 - The Trust Fund Secret

Madison was dragged away in handcuffs, sobbing hysterically as her glamorous life ended.
I left the airport and drove to a cheap, filthy motel on the edge of the city.
I knew Catherine would hide there, because it was the only place she could afford with the loose change in her purse.
I knocked on the peeling door of room number four.
Catherine opened it slowly, looking completely hollow and defeated.
She tried to play the victim one last time, weeping and begging for my forgiveness.
She claimed she had always loved me deep down.
I walked into the foul-smelling room and handed her a printed document.
It was a copy of my birth certificate, which my accountants had flagged during the audit.
The hospital signatures were forged, and the dates did not match my medical records.
I looked Catherine dead in the eye and demanded the truth about my origins.
I told her I would not leave until she confessed.
Catherine sank onto the stained mattress, realizing she had absolutely no leverage left.
She looked at the floor and whispered a horrifying confession.
She admitted that I was not her biological daughter.
She confessed that Richard had kidnapped me when I was just a newborn baby.
I was taken from a wildly wealthy family across the country.
They had raised me only to use my pristine identity to hide their criminal activities.
I felt a sickening wave of revulsion wash over my entire body.
I asked her why my real parents never came looking for me.
Catherine looked up, a malicious, twisted smile slowly creeping across her face.

She told me that my real parents could never look for me.
She whispered that Richard had murdered them both in their beds on the night he took me.
