Chapter 7 - The Desperate Blackmail

Spencer stood there with a triumphant smirk, fully believing he had just played a winning hand.

He demanded a private room away from the federal agents to negotiate the terms of our divorce.

I agreed calmly, leading him into a secluded VIP lounge located just off the main ballroom.

Carter followed closely behind me, standing like an immovable statue right by the heavy wooden door.

Spencer paced the luxurious room like a trapped animal trying to find an escape route.

"I know exactly how Raymond Harrell acquired his massive fortune," Spencer claimed confidently.

"He stole the initial seed money from my own grandfather during a shady real estate deal."

Spencer pointed a finger at me, his eyes wild with desperate greed.

"I demand full, uncontested ownership of the Apex Group in exchange for my permanent silence," he stated.

"I also want ten million dollars in untraceable cash deposited into a secure offshore account by midnight."

I looked at him with absolute, profound pity, realizing how truly delusional he was.

I reached into my sparkling diamond clutch and pulled out my sleek smartphone.

I pressed a single button on the screen, aiming the phone at the large television mounted on the wall.

The screen flickered to life, displaying a highly classified, black-and-white security video.

The footage clearly showed Spencer's grandfather crying and signing a legal transfer of massive debt.

My father had actually saved the Conway family from total bankruptcy and prison time decades ago.

Spencer stared at the television screen in complete shock, his entire worldview shattering into tiny pieces.

"Your family lied to you because they were too ashamed to admit they were failures," I explained softly.

I then pointed to the small, blinking red light hidden in the corner of the VIP lounge ceiling.

"And my father's security team just recorded your entire extortion attempt on multiple hidden cameras."
