Chapter 5 - The Crumbling Empire
Raymond Harrell walked straight toward us, the crowd parting for him like the Red Sea.
Spencer began to sweat profusely, his flawless hair now clinging damply to his forehead.
He tried to step forward to greet my father and explain the massive misunderstanding.
Two federal agents instantly blocked his path, keeping their hands resting near their holsters.
"Mr. Conway, you are going to remain exactly where you are," the lead agent commanded sharply.
My father looked at Spencer with a level of hatred that sent chills down my spine.
"You dared to humiliate my daughter in her own home," my father growled, his voice echoing in the quiet room.
"I am going to strip you of everything you hold dear."
My father pulled a thick stack of financial documents from his tailored suit pocket.
He threw the papers directly at Spencer's chest, letting them scatter across the floor.
"These documents prove that you have been embezzling millions of dollars from your own company for three years," my father announced.
Spencer shook his head frantically, denying the accusations with a trembling, cracked voice.
"I can prove that the stolen money was used to buy your mistress that diamond necklace," my father continued relentlessly.
Paisley gasped loudly, clutching the sparkling diamonds around her neck as if they were suddenly burning her skin.
She realized in that exact moment that Spencer was about to lose all his wealth and power.
Paisley immediately took three large steps away from him, leaving him entirely isolated.
"I had no idea he was stealing money!" Paisley screamed to the crowd, her face twisted in panic.
"He manipulated me and lied to me about his marriage!"
Spencer looked at his mistress in utter betrayal, realizing she only loved his wallet.
He called her a treacherous snake and demanded that she return his expensive gifts.
Paisley burst into dramatic, hysterical tears, dropping her hands to her stomach.
