Chapter 2 - The Stolen Trust

I stared at the official county seal stamped on the document she was holding.
"That is impossible," I said, keeping Emily safely tucked behind my leg.
"You signed the final vendor contracts in my dressing room this morning, remember?" Vanessa smiled sweetly.
"I simply slipped the marriage license and a few other legal documents into the stack."
The audacity of her betrayal left me temporarily speechless.
"I will have it annulled by tomorrow morning based on outright fraud," I fired back.
Vanessa laughed, a cold and calculated sound that made my skin crawl.
"By tomorrow morning, I will be halfway across the world, Andrew."
She stepped closer, dropping the innocent bride persona entirely.
"I did not just slip a marriage license into that stack of papers."
"You also signed a full power of attorney, granting me access to Caroline's estate."
My heart hammered violently against my ribs as the true scope of her plan was revealed.
Caroline had left a massive, two-million-dollar trust fund exclusively for Emily's future.
I immediately pulled my cell phone from my tuxedo pocket and dialed my estate lawyer.
"Samantha, I need you to freeze every single asset associated with my name and Emily's trust," I ordered into the phone.
The guests began whispering frantically, sensing that the beautiful wedding had turned into a nightmare.
My sister Laura ran down the aisle, grabbing Emily's hand to pull her away from the confrontation.
I kept my eyes locked on Vanessa while I waited for my lawyer to check the banking systems.
Vanessa casually inspected her manicured nails, completely unbothered by my furious glare.
"Andrew, I am looking at the accounts right now," Samantha's voice crackled through the phone.
"Tell me the money is still there," I demanded, pacing the white runner.
There was a long, terrifying silence on the other end of the line.

"The trust fund is completely empty, Andrew," Samantha finally whispered.
"The entire two million dollars was wired to an untraceable offshore account ten minutes ago."
