Chapter 5 - The Ambush at the Docks

The news of Leo's kidnapping hit me like a physical blow to the chest.
I was no longer just fighting for my daughter's life.
I was fighting for my entire family's survival against a conspiracy led by my own flesh and blood.
I drove to the abandoned east river shipping docks with the loaded gun sitting on the passenger seat.
The docks were a maze of rusted shipping containers and decaying warehouses.
I parked my car a mile away and approached the designated location on foot under the cover of darkness.
I crept through the shadows until I saw a massive warehouse illuminated by harsh industrial spotlights.
Laura and Greg were standing outside the heavy metal doors, smoking cigarettes and laughing.
Seeing my bride-to-be laughing after destroying my family filled me with a murderous fury.
I did not attack them directly, knowing it would alert Marcus inside.
Instead, I found a rusted ventilation shaft near the rear of the building and pried the metal grate loose.
I climbed through the narrow, filthy tunnel until I reached an opening overlooking the main warehouse floor.
I looked down and saw Emily and Leo tied to separate chairs in the center of the vast room.
Leo was crying softly, his tiny face stained with tears and dirt.
Marcus was pacing around them, checking his expensive watch impatiently.
I carefully lowered myself from the vent, landing silently on a stack of wooden pallets.
I raised my gun and stepped out of the shadows, aiming directly at Marcus's chest.
"Let them go, Marcus, or I will end you right here," I announced loudly.

Before Marcus could even react, I felt a cold metal barrel press hard against the back of my own head.
"Drop the gun, groom," Laura whispered venomously into my ear.
