Chapter 5 - The Desperate Escape

Maribel’s cruel laughter echoes through the small bunker speakers.
“I am going to burn this entire legacy to the ground and build my own empire on the ashes,” Maribel threatens.
The video feed cuts to black, leaving them in absolute silence once again.
Leandro frantically searches the walls of the bunker for any structural weakness.
“There is an old ventilation shaft that runs behind the medical supply cabinet,” Estelle suddenly remembers weakly.
Leandro and Daphne immediately push the heavy steel cabinet away from the concrete wall.
They find a rusted metal grate covering a narrow, dark tunnel.
Leandro kicks the grate forcefully until the old screws finally give way.
“The tunnel is too narrow for all of us to move quickly,” Daphne points out.
“You take my mother and climb out first, I will cover our tracks,” Leandro orders.
Daphne helps Estelle climb into the dusty, claustrophobic shaft.
Leandro follows closely behind them, dragging his heavy weapon through the dirt.
The air in the shaft is suffocating, smelling of old rust and damp earth.
They crawl agonizingly forward for what feels like an absolute eternity.
Suddenly, a massive explosion rocks the earth entirely around them.
The shockwave forcefully throws them forward against the cold metal walls of the duct.
Thick black smoke immediately begins pouring into the narrow tunnel from behind them.
“Keep moving, the mansion is collapsing!” Leandro screams, pushing them forward.
Daphne forcefully kicks out the final exterior grate, tumbling out onto the cold grass of the estate grounds.
They pull Estelle out just as a massive fireball consumes the entire mansion behind them.
