Chapter 3 - Through the Smoke

The ballroom erupts into absolute chaos as the blinding white smoke fills the air.
Leandro immediately grabs Estelle by the arm and pulls her toward the secret servant corridors.
Daphne fires three suppressive shots into the ceiling to scatter Salvatore’s armed guards.
“Keep moving, we only have a two-minute head start!” Daphne yells over the screaming guests.
They rush down the narrow, dark hallway, leaving the opulent party far behind them.
Estelle leans heavily against her son, her breathing becoming dangerously shallow.
“Leandro, my heart is beating too fast,” Estelle gasps in genuine pain.
Leandro realizes Maribel must be tampering with the pacemaker frequency from a distance.
“We need to get her to the underground medical bunker right now,” Leandro tells Daphne.
Daphne swiftly kicks open the heavy steel door leading to the basement levels.
The emergency backup lights flicker on, casting eerie red shadows on the concrete walls.
They practically carry Estelle down the final flight of stairs.
Leandro punches his biometric code into the bunker's massive vault door.
The heavy steel gears grind open, offering them a temporary sanctuary.
They carefully lay Estelle onto the sterile medical bed.
Daphne immediately starts hooking Estelle up to the diagnostic monitors to stabilize her heart rate.
“I can block the external signal, but it will take a few minutes to crack Maribel’s encryption,” Daphne says frantically.
Leandro loads a fresh magazine into his pistol, watching the security cameras.
“Take all the time you need, I will hold the door,” Leandro promises.

Suddenly, the security monitors go completely black.
The heavy vault door behind them begins to forcefully grind shut entirely on its own.
