Chapter 8 - The Aftermath

The sprawling Lake Forest estate was swarming with federal agents for the rest of the night.
They loaded Marco and Dominic into separate, heavily armored transport vans.
Luca was treated by federal paramedics and promised full immunity for his loyal cooperation.
Vincent was taken into a private room to sign the final, massive stack of informant documents.
By sunrise, the ruthless Moretti crime family was officially and permanently erased from the world.
I sat on the bumper of an ambulance, wrapping a warm blanket tightly around Ellie and Isabella.
Vincent walked slowly out of the mansion, looking incredibly exhausted but remarkably peaceful.
He knelt down carefully in front of his brave daughter.
"It's finally over, Bella," Vincent whispered, tears welling up in his dark eyes.
Isabella reached out and gently wiped a tear from her father's bruised cheek.
"I love you, Daddy," she spoke clearly, her sweet voice breaking the long, agonizing silence.
Vincent broke down entirely, hugging her so tightly I thought he might never let go.
He looked up at me, infinite gratitude shining brightly in his tired face.
"I promised I would give you everything if you made her speak, Anna," Vincent smiled softly.
"I am setting up a trust fund for Ellie, and a completely new, safe house for you both."
"You will never have to work another day in your life, and nobody will ever hurt you again."

I hugged Ellie tightly, tears of immense relief finally streaming freely down my face.
The terrifying nightmare was truly over, and we were finally going to be safe.
