Chapter 10 - The Second Swan

I sat frozen on the carpet, staring at the object resting heavily in my lap.
It was a white swan music box, completely identical in every single way to the one Isabella carried.
But Isabella had her music box with her downstairs right this very moment.
My hands trembled violently as I realized this second box had been hidden in our new, secure house.
I reached out slowly and flicked the small brass latch open.
There was no delicate melody, and there was no velvet lining.
Inside the dark wooden box was a single, neatly folded piece of white paper.
I picked it up carefully, immediately recognizing the elegant, looping handwriting of the late Sofia Moretti.
"Anna, if you are reading this, it means my foolish husband actually trusted the FBI," the note read.
"They think Dominic and Marco were the true masterminds behind my tragic death."
"But they were only the desperate puppets acting entirely on my strict orders."

"I faked the car crash because Vincent was never going to let me leave him alive."
"I will be coming to reclaim my precious daughter very soon."
