Chapter 1 - The Bathroom Floor

I stayed against that bathroom wall until my breathing stopped trembling.
The silence of the luxury suite pressed heavily against my ears.
I needed to know if I was actually losing my mind.
I crept out of the bathroom and walked barefoot across the cold marble.
Axton was fast asleep with his back turned toward my side of the bed.
His tuxedo jacket was draped carelessly over the velvet chair near the window.
I reached into the inner pocket and pulled out his cell phone.
I knew his passcode was our anniversary date.
My hands shook violently as I typed the numbers onto the glowing screen.
The phone unlocked immediately.
I opened his messages and saw my sister's name pinned to the very top.
Mila had sent him a text just twenty minutes ago.
I held my breath as I tapped on her name to read the conversation.
She had sent a photograph of herself wearing a stunning red dress.
Beneath the picture was a message that made my blood run completely cold.
"Is she asleep yet?" Mila had asked.
Axton had replied right before he whispered her name in our bed.
"Yes, she took the champagne," he had typed back.
Mila responded immediately with another terrifying question.
"Did you give her the drops like we planned?"
I stared at the screen as the room began to spin around me.
He had drugged my wedding champagne.
My vision suddenly blurred, and a heavy wave of dizziness crashed over my brain.
I stumbled backward and dropped his phone onto the thick carpet.
The loud thud echoed sharply in the quiet room.
Axton shifted in the bed and slowly opened his eyes.
May you like
He sat up in the darkness and looked directly at me.
"You should not have looked at that, Callie," he whispered coldly.
