Chapter 4 - The Silent Partner

Gideon stared at the security footage, realizing his entire corporate infrastructure had been thoroughly compromised from the inside.

His own cybersecurity chief had facilitated Sarah's entry into the vault, meaning Douglas had eyes and ears everywhere.

Gwen felt her chest tighten as the reality of her sister's meticulous identity theft fully set in.

Everything she owned, her credit, her assets, her history, had been seamlessly hijacked while she was busy raising her children.

Gideon grabbed Gwen's arm and rushed her out of the bank before the corrupted system could trigger a police response.

They sat in Gideon's car in a dark alleyway, breathing heavily as they tried to formulate a new plan.

If the digital systems and the banks were compromised, they had to rely on physical leverage that Douglas couldn't instantly erase.

Gideon pulled out a burner phone he kept for emergencies and dialed a private investigator he had trusted for a decade.

He ordered the investigator to track the flight manifests for all private airstrips within a hundred-mile radius.

Ten minutes later, the investigator sent a terrifying, encrypted text message back to Gideon.

Douglas had chartered a private jet scheduled to leave for a non-extradition country at midnight tomorrow.

But he wasn't just taking the embezzled millions and Sarah with him.

The passenger manifest listed four people, including the names of Gwen's two young children, Toby and Maisie.

Gwen screamed, realizing that Douglas intended to legally kidnap her kids to ensure she would never testify against him.

They frantically sped back to Cherry Hills Village to secure the children, running multiple red lights in desperation.

When they finally arrived at Gideon's estate, the massive wrought-iron gates were already broken and wide open.

Gideon's head of security was lying unconscious on the front lawn, bleeding from a severe head wound.

Gwen sprinted through the front door, screaming the names of her children at the top of her lungs.

The house was eerily silent, until a chilling voice echoed from the upstairs balcony.

Douglas stood there holding a terrified Toby by the arm, aiming a suppressed pistol directly at Gideon's chest.
