Chapter 1 - The Hidden Ledger

Gideon stared at the glowing monitor in his home office, the digital clock on his desk flashing two in the morning as he dug through the company's oldest archives.

He had bypassed the standard security protocols, using a backdoor access code he hadn't touched since they launched the firm seventeen years ago.

What he found in those hidden, encrypted folders made his blood run completely cold.

Douglas had not just lied about the origin of their seed money; he had fabricated an entire paper trail to erase Gwen's contribution.

But the lies went much deeper than a simple stolen inheritance.

Gideon pulled up a scanned PDF labeled with a strange offshore account number.

It was a master loan agreement secured against the very company they had built together.

The document showed that Douglas had borrowed over ten million dollars from a shadow syndicate, using the company as collateral.

Worse, Gideon's eyes zeroed in on the guarantor section at the bottom of the final page.

There, in perfect, flowing black ink, was Gwen Ramirez's signature.

Douglas had forged his wife's name, making her entirely liable for a massive debt she knew absolutely nothing about.

If the company defaulted, these dangerous creditors wouldn't come after Douglas, they would come to destroy Gwen.

Gideon printed the document, his hands shaking with a mix of fury and disbelief.

He had trusted Douglas with his life, his business, and his future.

Now, he realized he was dealing with a sociopath who had engineered a perfect trap.

Suddenly, the motion sensor alert on Gideon's security system chimed loudly through the quiet house.

He glanced at the live camera feed displayed on his secondary monitor.

A sleek black SUV had just aggressively pulled up to his front gates.

A man stepped out into the pouring rain, staring directly into the security camera with a menacing grin.

It was Douglas, and he was holding a heavy steel crowbar.
