Chapter 3 - The Dangerous Alliance

The realization that Nathan had stolen my intellectual property to build his entire medical career made my blood boil.
I had sacrificed my own dreams to support him, and he had literally stolen my genius to replace me.
Marcus drove us to a quiet diner on the outskirts of town where nobody from the hospital would recognize us.
He ordered two black coffees and told me that Nathan was currently the golden boy of the residency program.
Because Nathan was engaged to Chloe, the hospital board was perfectly willing to overlook his alarming lack of actual clinical skills.
Marcus confessed that he was risking his own medical license by helping me, but he could not watch a fraud ruin innocent patients' lives.
He opened another folder on the encrypted flash drive, revealing a series of hidden hospital records.
The records showed that Nathan had severely botched three different surgical procedures during his clinical rotations.
Instead of facing disciplinary action, the Chief of Surgery had deliberately altered the patient files to protect his future son-in-law.
We now had concrete proof of a massive medical cover-up that went straight to the top of the hospital administration.
I knew that if we exposed these files, Nathan would lose his medical license and face serious federal prison time.
However, the digital copies on the flash drive were not enough to hold up in a court of law without the original handwritten logs.
Marcus warned me that the Chief of Surgery kept all the original, unaltered surgical logs locked in his private estate.
I took a slow sip of my bitter coffee and formulated a completely reckless plan to get my life back.
I told Marcus that I knew the security codes to the Chief of Surgery's house because Nathan used to brag about them when he was drunk.
Marcus stared at me in absolute disbelief, asking if I was seriously suggesting we break into a mansion.
May you like
I looked him dead in the eye and said I had absolutely nothing left to lose.
Just as we stood up to leave the diner, two police cruisers aggressively pulled into the parking lot with their lights flashing directly at us.
