Chapter 7 - The Hostage Rescue

The loud gunshot echoed violently through the empty warehouse, sending birds scattering from the rusty roof.
Christopher used the sudden distraction to violently shove the gravedigger toward Pamela, knocking her off balance.
He didn't hesitate, immediately sprinting toward the heavy metal side exit to save his own miserable life.
"David, now!" I screamed into the hidden wire microphone attached to my jacket collar.
The heavy side door burst open before Christopher could even reach the handle.
David stepped through the doorway, leveling a heavy tactical shotgun directly at Christopher's chest.
"Going somewhere, brother-in-law?" David asked with a dark, satisfied smile.
Christopher completely froze, dropping his silver pistol to the concrete floor in absolute terror.
I quickly rushed over to the terrified old gravedigger and used a pocketknife to cut the heavy zip-ties binding his wrists.
"Thank you, ma'am, I thought I was a dead man," the gravedigger cried, hugging me tightly.
I guided him toward the exit, telling him to run as far away from the dangerous pier as possible.
Pamela finally recovered from the blinding light, rubbing her eyes furiously as she raised her sniper rifle again.
Before she could aim, David swiftly kicked the heavy weapon out of her hands, sending it sliding across the floor.
Both Christopher and Pamela were completely disarmed and entirely at our mercy in the center of the warehouse.
I walked slowly toward the man who had ordered my murder, feeling absolutely no fear anymore.
"It is over, Christopher, the police are on their way and I recorded your entire confession," I stated firmly.
Christopher fell to his knees, tears of desperate cowardice streaming down his perfectly manicured face.
"Please, Samantha, I was desperate, the syndicate was threatening to kill me if I didn't pay them back," he sobbed pathetically.
I looked down at him with nothing but pure, unfiltered disgust for the pathetic monster he truly was.
Suddenly, the wailing sirens of multiple police cruisers echoed loudly from outside the warehouse walls.
David nodded at me, confirming that our carefully planned trap had worked perfectly.

But as the police violently breached the front doors, Christopher looked up at me with a terrifying, unhinged smile.
"You really think the syndicate will just let you walk away with their money?" Christopher whispered darkly.
