Chapter 6 - The Sniper's Mark

The deafening echo of the slamming doors made both Christopher and me jump in absolute surprise.

Christopher frantically aimed his silver pistol toward the dark shadows near the warehouse entrance.

"Who else is in here? I told you to come alone!" Christopher screamed, his confident facade completely cracking.

I backed away slowly, having absolutely no idea who had just locked us inside the abandoned building.

Suddenly, a tiny, bright red laser dot appeared directly on the center of Christopher's chest.

Someone was aiming a high-powered sniper rifle directly at my husband from the upper catwalks.

"Drop the weapon right now, Christopher, or I will put a bullet through your heart," a cold, feminine voice echoed through the warehouse.

Christopher panicked and immediately grabbed the terrified gravedigger, using the old man as a human shield.

"Show yourself right now, or I swear I will kill him!" Christopher roared desperately.

A figure slowly descended the metal stairs from the catwalk, stepping cautiously into the dim light.

It was Pamela.

She was bruised from where David had hit her earlier, but she was fully armed and looking absolutely furious.

"You left me at the cemetery to take the fall, Christopher, you promised we were partners," Pamela spat angrily.

Christopher realized his entire twisted plan was violently imploding right in front of his eyes.

"Pamela, please, put the gun down and we can still split the money fifty-fifty," Christopher begged pathetically.

Pamela sneered in disgust, keeping the laser sight perfectly steady on his trembling shoulder.

"I don't want the money anymore, Christopher, I want absolute revenge for you betraying me," Pamela declared coldly.

I realized Pamela wasn't here to save me; she was here to eliminate both of us and steal the documents for herself.

I quietly reached into my pocket and grabbed the small, blinding tactical flashlight David had given me for emergencies.

I waited until Pamela took one more aggressive step toward my husband, completely focused on her own revenge.

I aggressively shined the blinding, high-lumen light directly into Pamela's sensitive eyes.

Pamela screamed in surprise, completely blinded by the intense beam, and wildly fired a shot into the ceiling.
