Chapter 3 - The Shadow

Pamela spun around, aiming her weapon toward the loud noise near the maintenance shed.

She took a slow, cautious step away from my open grave, her eyes scanning the tall, overgrown tombstones.

"Who is there?" Pamela demanded, her voice betraying a tiny flicker of genuine fear.

I used the brief distraction to desperately pull myself up over the edge of the wooden coffin.

My arms shook violently, and my legs felt like heavy lead weights as I dragged myself out of the deep grave.

I crawled frantically through the dirt and hid behind a massive granite mausoleum just a few feet away.

Pamela realized I was gone and cursed loudly, aggressively kicking the dirt near the empty grave.

"You cannot hide from me, Samantha, you are too weak to run!" Pamela yelled, searching the area.

I held my breath, pressing my back flat against the cold stone of the mausoleum to remain entirely hidden.

Suddenly, a tall, dark figure stepped silently out from behind the maintenance shed.

He was wearing a dark hooded jacket, completely obscuring his face in the thick shadows.

Pamela immediately raised her gun and aimed it directly at the stranger's chest.

"I don't know who you are, but you picked the wrong day to visit this cemetery," Pamela warned him.

The stranger did not speak, nor did he raise his hands in surrender.

Instead, he moved with terrifying, unbelievable speed, closing the distance between them in a split second.

He grabbed the barrel of her gun and twisted it violently upward, completely disarming her before she could react.

Pamela screamed in pain as he delivered a brutal strike to her jaw, instantly knocking her unconscious to the ground.

I watched in absolute shock from behind the mausoleum, my heart racing as the stranger picked up the dropped handgun.

He slowly turned his hooded head toward my hiding spot, seemingly knowing exactly where I was the entire time.

"You can come out now, Samantha, she won't hurt you anymore," the man said, his voice deep and incredibly familiar.

I cautiously stepped out from the shadows, my legs still trembling uncontrollably.

May you like

He pulled down his hood, revealing a face I had not seen in over a decade.

It was David, my older brother who had been legally declared dead in a boating accident ten years ago.
