Chapter 8 - The Vanishing Ink

I watched the live security feed in absolute agony as Rachel smiled at the offshore bank teller.
She was literal seconds away from walking out the door with everything I had ever worked for.
"Interpol is exactly three minutes away from that bank," Agent Vance cursed, slamming his fist against the command desk.
"She is going to finalize the transfer before they even breach the front doors."
I stared closely at the high-definition video feed, noticing the specific document Rachel had just handed the teller.
It was the master authorization release form that Julian had forced me to sign last week.
Rachel had somehow stolen the physical document from Julian's briefcase before she fled the country.
I slowly leaned back in my chair, a genuine, completely unbetted smile spreading across my face.
"Stand down the Interpol strike team, Agent Vance," I ordered calmly.
Vance looked at me as if I had entirely lost my mind.
"If we stand down, she escapes with thirty million dollars!" Vance argued fiercely.
"She is not going to escape with a single dime," I replied, crossing my arms confidently.
"Because the signature on that master authorization document is completely invalid."
Vance frowned deeply, staring at the screen as the bank teller fed the document into a high-tech verification scanner.
"I told you, I was suspicious of Julian for over three months," I explained to the confused FBI agent.
"When he asked me to sign that 'routine paperwork,' I knew exactly what he was trying to do."
"I signed the absolute bottom line of that contract using a specialized, thermal-reactive vanishing ink pen."
Vance's eyes widened in profound, absolute shock as he finally understood my ultimate countermeasure.
"The ink completely degrades and vanishes when exposed to high-intensity ultraviolet light," I continued.
On the video feed, the bank teller placed the document under the bank's standard UV fraud-detection scanner.
Rachel took another arrogant sip of her expensive champagne, completely confident in her ultimate victory.
The bank teller looked down at the document, frowned in confusion, and ran the scanner over it a second time.
The signature line was completely, entirely blank.
The teller immediately pressed a hidden security button beneath the marble counter.
Rachel's confident smile instantly vanished as the teller stepped backward and the bank's heavy steel security doors violently slammed shut.
Sirens began blaring inside the luxurious lobby, trapping Rachel completely inside the building.
"She tried to cash a fraudulent, unsigned international transfer document," I laughed softly.
"The bank just triggered an automatic federal lockdown."
Agent Vance shook his head in absolute awe, pulling his radio to his mouth.

"Interpol team, you are clear to breach the lobby and secure the suspect," Vance commanded.
We watched the live feed as heavily armed international police stormed into the bank and tackled my treacherous best friend to the floor.
