Chapter 1 - The Airport Trap

I stayed exactly where I was behind the concrete pillar.
I watched Julian and his supposed coworker walk away toward the departure gates.
My heart hammered against my ribs, but my hands were completely steady.
He truly believed I was a naive, trusting wife sitting blindly at home.
He had no idea that I had been suspicious of his late-night meetings for over three months.
I quietly turned around and walked out of the bustling airport terminal.
I did not go home to cry or pack my bags in a dramatic panic.
I got into my car and drove directly to the downtown office of my corporate attorney.
Julian thought the paperwork I signed last week gave him total control over my company.
He assumed I never bothered to read the fine print on the transfer documents.
But I had read every single line of that contract before I ever picked up a pen.
I had secretly hired a forensic accountant to analyze his new business venture weeks ago.
The accountant discovered that Julian’s company was nothing more than a massive shell corporation.
He was planning to drain my business accounts and transfer the deed to my house.
I pulled into the parking garage of my lawyer's building and took the elevator to the top floor.
My attorney, David, was already waiting for me in his private conference room.
I sat down and played the audio recording I had just captured at the airport.
David listened to Julian's entire confession without showing a single trace of emotion.
"He is initiating the hostile takeover today," I told David confidently.
"We need to execute the countermeasure immediately before his transfer clears."
David nodded and opened his laptop to access my highly secured corporate accounts.
He typed in my administrative password and hit the primary enter key.
A bright red warning message suddenly flashed across his computer screen.
David frowned deeply and typed the password a second time.
The system locked us out entirely.
"Maya, someone changed the master administrative credentials ten minutes ago," David said.
Julian had somehow bypassed our two-factor authentication from the airport lounge.
I pulled out my cell phone to call my bank directly and freeze the routing numbers.
Before I could dial, I received an automated alert from my home security system.
The front door of my house had just been unlocked using Julian's physical key.
Julian was supposed to be boarding a flight to Seattle with his mistress.
May you like
I stared at the security notification in absolute horror.
If Julian was at the airport, someone else was currently inside my house.
