Chapter 9 - No Way Out

Thick, yellow smoke began pouring aggressively into the small panic room.
Clara coughed violently, her eyes watering as the toxic gas burned her lungs.
She tore pieces of her shirt and tied them over Sophia's nose and mouth.
Dante groaned loudly, finally managing to push himself up onto his hands and knees.
His movements were incredibly sluggish, but his pure adrenaline was fighting the drugs.
He dragged himself toward a heavy metal storage crate in the corner of the vault.
He popped the latches and pulled out several blocks of military-grade C4 explosives.
"Get into the farthest corner and cover her completely!" Dante ordered Clara.
Clara grabbed Sophia and curled tightly into a ball against the back wall.
Dante attached a small detonator to the explosives and pressed them against the vault door.
He limped back to Clara, shielding them both with his broad, muscular back.
"Brace yourselves!" Dante yelled.
He pressed the detonator switch.
The massive explosion completely blew the heavy steel door off its reinforced hinges.
The door flew across the clinic, crushing two of Julian's armed hitmen instantly.
Dante surged through the smoke-filled doorway, grabbing a dropped rifle from the floor.
A brutal, deafening firefight erupted in the ruins of the clinic.
Dante fought with the ferocity of a wild animal, dropping men with lethal precision.
Clara followed closely behind, carrying Sophia through the chaotic battlefield.
Julian emerged from the shadows, completely out of ammunition.
He pulled a combat knife and tackled Dante violently to the floor.

Julian managed to knock the rifle away and pressed the sharp blade against Dante's throat.
Sophia screamed in absolute terror as Julian prepared to slice her father's neck.
