Chapter 7 - The Hostage Situation

Dante collapsed heavily onto the cold tile floor, his muscles instantly freezing.
He could still see and hear, but his body was completely paralyzed.
Dr. Aris reached for his desk drawer, pulling out a small, silver revolver.
Clara did not hesitate for even a single second.
She grabbed a sharp surgical scalpel from the metal tray and lunged forward.
She drove the blade deeply into the doctor's forearm before he could aim the gun.
Dr. Aris screamed in agony, dropping the weapon as blood spilled onto the tiles.
Clara kicked the revolver far out of his reach and punched him squarely in the jaw.
The corrupt doctor slumped against the medical cabinets, completely unconscious.
Clara rushed over to Dante, who could only blink his eyes in desperate warning.
She looked at the security monitor and saw Julian's black sedans pulling up to the clinic.
"They are here," Clara whispered in pure terror.
She grabbed Elena's unlocked phone from the laptop and shoved it into her pocket.
She hooked her arms under Dante's shoulders and dragged his heavy body across the floor.
Sophia pushed the heavy steel door of the clinic's reinforced vault wide open.
Clara dragged Dante inside the small panic room and pulled Sophia in right behind him.
She slammed the heavy vault door shut and engaged the massive steel locking mechanism.
Seconds later, Julian's men breached the front doors of the veterinary clinic.
Clara could hear them searching the rooms, tossing medical equipment aside violently.
Then, a loud electronic beep echoed through the small vault.

Julian’s cruel voice suddenly filtered through the room’s intercom system.
"You should really watch the video on that phone before you judge me, Clara," Julian mocked.
