Chapter 4 - The Brother's Secret

Dante stood in the ruined doorway, breathing heavily and covered in blood.
He had somehow survived the mansion shootout and tracked the SUV's GPS signal.
He raised his weapon and aimed it directly at Clara's heart.
"Who are you really working for?" Dante demanded with lethal fury.
Clara raised her hands defensively, shielding Sophia behind her body.
"I am just a waitress, Dante, I swear!" Clara pleaded.
Dante stepped into the apartment and glared at the photograph on the counter.
"Your brother was the getaway driver for the men who murdered my wife," Dante growled.
Clara shook her head frantically, tears spilling down her cheeks.
"Leo died in a car crash, he was not a criminal!" she cried out.
"Julian murdered your brother to tie up loose ends after my wife was killed," Dante explained coldly.
The devastating truth hit Clara like a physical blow to the stomach.
Her entire life had been destroyed by the exact same men who had traumatized Sophia.
Suddenly, red laser sights began dancing across the walls of the small apartment.
Julian's assassins had found the abandoned SUV and tracked them to the complex.
"Get down!" Dante roared, tackling Clara and his daughter to the floor.
Automatic weapons shredded the thin apartment walls, destroying everything Clara owned.
They were completely trapped in the tiny space with no rear exit.
Clara noticed the ancient gas stove in her kitchen had been severely damaged by the bullets.
She could smell the heavy, toxic scent of natural gas flooding the room.
Clara grabbed a lighter from her pocket and looked at Dante with absolute desperation.

"Cover her ears," Clara ordered.
She threw the lit lighter into the kitchen just as Julian's men breached the front door.
